How would you answer this question: What is God passionate about? Here is a second question: What are you passionate about? How many of your passions are also passions of God? In the scripture I find four passions of God:
1) God is passionate about you knowing and experiencing his love.
“I have seen your power and glory Lord, and your love is better than life.”
Psalm 63:3
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
Psalm 100:1
2) God is passionate about rescuing or saving the world.
John 3:16-17 “God loved the world so much that he send his Son
not to condemn us, but to save us.”
3) God is passionate about stopping injustice in the world.
There are so many injustices in our world today. 25,000 children die each day of hunger or hunger-related causes. 925 million people suffer from hunger, that is 13.6% of the world population.
30 million people are victims of human trafficking globally and forced into slavery and/or the sex-trade. 600,000 - 800,000 girls, boys and women are kidnapped each year who are transported to an unfamiliar place and forced into the sex trade industry. 240,000 of these girls, boys & women are kidnapped each year right here in America. 80% of those girls, boys and woman are American citizens.
Human trafficking and the sex trade industry is a $150 billion dollar industry worldwide. It is now the 2nd most illegal industry, 2nd only to the drug industry.
1,345 million people live on $1.25 or less a day. 115 million widows living in extreme poverty around the world, with 1/2 billion children depending on these widows for survival. These widows have no husband to protect and are victims of land grabbing. Thieves forcibly take their family land/small farm and put this mother and her children on the street homeless with no means of income.
Racism is an issue not just in America, it is an issue around the world. People who are persecuted because of the color of their skin, or their faith, or their life style. Racism of all kinds is injustice and we need to constantly be doing our part to subside this evil.
4) God is passionate about you taking a stand against injustice and make a difference in the world.
God’s plan to stop injustice is US! You and me!
Micah 6:8 - ‘What does the Lord require of YOU, but to seek justice,
love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”
James 1:27 - ‘Religion that God accepts as pure and faultless is this:
to look after orphans and widows in their distress…”
Matthew 5:14 - ‘YOU are the light of the world.”
4 billion living in spiritual darkness of poverty - they need us
30 million living under the darkness of slavery - they need us
1.8 billion living under the darkness of violence - they need us
What can you do?
While you can’t take up all the social injustice ills of the world, and can do for one what you would like to do for all. You can pick one or two of the social injustices and get involved.
Educate yourself and make yourself aware of the evil of a social injustice. I know it is uncomfortable, but we must not hide our heads in the sand.
Find an organization that is fighting the social injustice you want to stand against and see what you can do to help. You may be able to minimally give financially. Hopefully, you will go beyond just financial support and get involved at some level.
Help to inform others.
Evil will always exist in this world, but it doesn’t have to flourish. We can make a different to minimize the evil injustice in our world. There are more good people in the world than evil people.
Jesus stated nothing will be impossible for us if we will stand together and work together!
CREATING A BETTER WORLD!
